EUROPE

Europe has everything to offer to its visitors, historical cities, beautiful beaches, breathtaking mountain regions and vast and spectacular countryside.

Covering around 4,000,000 sq mi, it is the 6th largest continent. It is bordered on the north by the Arctic Ocean, on the west by the Atlantic Ocean, and on the south (west to east) by the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. The huge Alpine mountain chain of the Pyrenees, the Alps, the Carpathians, the Balkans, and the Caucasus traverses Europe from west to east. The great European plain stretches from the Atlantic coast of France to the Urals where in the east and north there are vast forest, lake and tundra regions. In the South there are the Iberian and Balkan peninsulas which are mainly mountainous. Among the chief river systems are the Volga, the Danube, the Rhine, the Rhône, the Loire and the Tagus.

The climate varies greatly, with a dry, warm Mediterranean climate in the south; a mild, humid climate in the west and north western areas. In central and eastern Europe the climate is of the humid continental-type with cool summers. In the northeast subarctic and tundra climates are found.
